The bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the home, yet we rarely pay any attention to the décor in there, and if we do, it’s usually all very neutral and minimalist. Many people find adding colour to a bathroom extremely difficult as they don’t want to make such a small space look too busy. However there are ways to insert colour into a room subtly and without going overboard, follow these top tips to find out how.

Paint Your Walls

Painting the walls of your bathroom can instantly update the area, adding colour and personality to the room. If you are using a very vibrant colour or the room is quite small, it may be best to paint one feature wall and paint the rest a neutral colour so that you are still implementing colour into the room but without being such an overwhelming shock.

Use Tiles

If you want to use tiles in your bathroom and are looking for a subtle introduction of colour then choosing a neutral colour for the majority of the wall tile and then inserting a few coloured tiles can achieve the effect you are looking for. Another way to subtle introduce colour is to use mosaic designed tiles, you can purchase these in a variety of different shades of the same colour so that the effect is much more understated.

If you wanted to make a bolder statement then you could create a feature wall of coloured tiles. This could be done behind the bath or shower, or even behind the sink. A similar way to do this is that has much less work involved is to use splashbacks that are much easier to maintain than tiles, you can purchase these from Cameo Glass who supply high quality spalshbacks.

Add Accessorise

You may not believe it but the majority of character and personality in a room comes from the accessories that are placed in there. Adding a splash of colour through a shower curtain or bathroom blinds can set the colour scheme for your bathroom. You can also add little bits and bobs to match the colour scheme such as soap dispensers, mirrors, bath mats and candles. As these items can be easily replaced, they are a good idea for those who regularly change their minds about what colour they want to keep each room.

Fixtures and Fittings

You could add colour through your storage fittings such as cabinets and shelves. This is a highly modern way of adding colour to your bathroom rather than having your more traditional wooden fittings. If you don’t want to make such a large commitment in regards to the actual furniture, simply adding colourful door handles and door hooks can still bring some colour to your furniture without making any drastic changes.

Now that you have a few ideas on how to add colour to your bathroom, you can start to make some of these changes yourself. Whether you want to go bright and bold, or subtle and demure, the choice is yours.
